Second Person

You found a dead bee in the hatch of your car. You felt powerful because it was dead and could not sting you. You put it to your eye to see what you could see. And then one day it died.

First Person

I have a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from a large Midwestern university on a big river. Now I teach on the tenure track of a smaller Midwestern university on the banks of a smaller river.

My first book, For Sale By Owner (Kore Press), won the 2011 Next Generation Indie Book Award in Short Fiction and was a finalist for the 2012 Best Books of Indiana, Fiction.

My second book, Liliane’s Balcony, was published by Rose Metal Press in 2013. It’s set at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, and if you could help me get it into the hands of Brad Pitt, I would really appreciate it.

My third book was my first venture into literary nonfiction: The Bitter Life of Božena Němcová: A Biographical Collage is a hybrid work of biography, memoir, and visual art about the amazing 19th-century Czech fairy tale writer, Božena Němcová. It was published by Rose Metal Press in 2016.
